I have read several articles on the Fairy Swordfish bi plane and I wanted to create a painting featuring this plane. The plane was responsible for the Bismarck battle ship being sunk, though they did not sink it, they crippled it. I bought a book on the plane which had lots of photos and I purchased a model of it as well. I photographed the model early in the morning to get the kind of lighting that I wanted on the model and view point. Using this as my guide I played around with several compositions, keeping in mind the facts of the actual attack on the battleship. I finished the painting in about a month. I entered it into an aviation art show at the Dallas airport. I received a call from a man who was interested in purchasing the painting for his collection. So it now hangs in his Chicago home.
I did create a second painting of the Swordfish, titled "We have a runner" it deals with the same subject of the attack on the Bismarck battle ship. You can see that work in my aviation art collection.
