Thoughts from an artist
This will be my first blog post. I guess it will get easier to write these over time like learning to paint. I hope to keep these different from my newsletters. There, I deal mostly with the process of creating a particular work of art and what goes into that process.
We all will have good days and bad days when painting, but it is essential to consistently create work.
This is the only way to build knowledge and skill in painting. Over time, we will all start to see improvements in our skills, I certainly have seen this in my work over the years. I'm building knowledge, learning the skills to be able to capture my thoughts and feelings about the subjects I choose to paint, whether in my studio or outdoors. Creating art is enjoyable, at least for me it is. Though there was a time when I had more failures than successes. I don't mean to suggest that we need to spend all our time drawing or painting, but set aside a couple of hours each day if you can. Through this you begin to see an improvement in your ability and this is the reward for all that effort. I hope this motivates or inspires you to not quit.
This is something I came across a while back and pretty much sums it up.
Ability is what your'e capable of.
Motivation determines what you do.
Attitude determines how well you do it.
